I like architecture. Churches, houses, barns, everything else that appeals to me. I like driving the back roads and exploring old farm houses, the old barns. I like driving around downtown Nashville and taking in the high-rises, but also the old buildings, the ones that look wonderfully creepy. You know those old buildings. I even like driving around my little home town with the vacant homes dotting the side streets, the empty factories in the industrial park. And castles! How cool would it be to have a castle to play in? That would be the shiznit indeed.
It’s fascinating how buildings (especially those that have been around a lot longer than me) show their character. Their faces are rich with history, and they make me want to know their stories: what happened to put those lines on their faces, what were the good times, the bad times. Some buildings are just inspirational, full mystery, fear, drama, comedy.
Some buildings just look scary and spooky. Some look ominous. I like touring cathedrals, old houses, empty factories. And graveyards, but that’s for another segment later. There used to be an old abandoned one-room school house down the road from where I live. I used to love investigating it. The same with an old house across the road from my home.
I just thought I’d share my interest here with you. Below are some photos I found scattered across the net I’ve always liked. If any of you have the same passion for the character of architecture, let me know. If you have some photos you want to share with us, send them. Contact me at durdenjay@gmail.com.
